St. Petersburg Luxury Chess Set with Board in Ebony/Boxwood - 4.2" King & Box

We are pleased to announce the St. Petersburg Luxury Artisan Series heirloom quality Staunton chess set exquisitely made from ebony and natural boxwood. The King proudly stands at 4.2 inches and its base is robust 1.8 inches. This is a luxury design featuring the magnificently robust and curved knight. 

Chess Pieces Weight : 2250 grams (79.36 oz). Please note that the weight in the set is added manually so the final weight of the set can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%.

The dark chess pieces are made of ebony wood. It would be difficult to find a more sumptuous wood than ebony wood for the dark side chess pieces. The texture of the ebony wood is fine and a true pleasure to hold. The deep luster and total blackness of the ebony wood are exceptional.

The opposing pieces are made of boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. King, Queens, Bishops, and Pawns have unique rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelops the base of each chess men for smooth movement on the chess board. The knights are well-crafted and represent the highest grade of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer.

Design Inspiration: The finial of the king is inspired by the dome of The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood which is located in Russia's rebel city St' Petersburg.  

Craftsmanship: The carving and the design of the knight are quite spectacular, look closely at the curved neck, eyes, nostrils, teeth and, craftsmanship around the mane. The design of the other pieces is also highly outstanding that allows the set to truly stand out. They are meticulously handcrafted from the finest grade ebony wood and polished by hand to give it a rich and long lasting shine. Each chessmen is carefully handcrafted in India and takes some influences from the Arabian Knight Series. Superb size proportioning from king to the pawn exhibits true intricate craftsmanship in all the pieces. The design, quality, and craftsmanship of these chess pieces is comparable to the luxury chess sets that are sold for $1300+ by other retailers.

Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.

About Wooden Chess Board:

This beautiful Board is made of Ebony Wood on the darker side and Box Wood on the lighter side. The frame of the Chess Board is made of Sheesham Wood (Golden Rose Wood).

The size of the Board is 23" x 23" / (58.4 cm x 58.4 cm) with square size of 2.4" x 2.4" / (60 mm x 60 mm). The Board is 22 mm thick.

About Storage Box: This chess set comes with Leatherette storage box with double tray and fixed slots for putting each piece separately. It is exclusively designed for this chess set and is not available separately. It comes with the suitcase-style handle to carry and is also fitted with a lock for safe upkeep. The box has been lined with beige velvet to protect the pieces from scratching. There are two trays in the box to keep two sides of the set. The upper tray can be pulled out as it comes with little leatherette handles on either side. The lower tray is fixed inside the box.
