Bought on sale so a great price. Precise crafting. The styling is elegant and austere; this interpretation is well-executed. Some characteristics I like: the straight-sided bases, the near-spherical unmitered bishop heads, the opposite k/q finials and the unusual king finial, the demure knight with the Mona Lisa near-smile. The effect of the set-up pieces suggests Swedish Modern design even though it's Russian. (Posted on 7/5/2018)
Green for me. Review by ChasUK
The previous 3 reviews have said it all - a very attractive set beautifully made and, I would add, astonishing value for money. I recently bought this set but with the black pieces customised green instead. Green used to be a not unusual colour for a set years ago but is now unheard of. So congratulations to Chess Bazaar for resurrecting what I think is a very attractive colour for a set. The set is now my pride & joy. I love playing a game with it or, well, just looking at it! Wouldn't you know it, though, the first day I received it I accidentally swiped the green king's finial off in my attempts to swat an annoying buzzing fly. I'm a grown man but must admit I nearly cried. All's well that ends well though. CB quickly sent me a free replacement finial and set is now as good and beautiful as ever. (Posted on 9/3/2016)
