We are pleased to announce the special edition of St. Petersburg Luxury Artisan Series heirloom quality Staunton chess set exquisitely made from bud rosewood and natural boxwood with lacquer finish. The King proudly stands at 4.2 inches and its base is robust 1.8 inches. This is a luxury design featuring the magnificently robust and curved knight. 

Dark chess pieces are meticulously handcrafted from the finest grade bud rosewood. We then polished them in high gloss lacquer which gives the chess pieces a smooth shining surface. Because of its rarity, bud rosewood chess pieces are the primary choice of many chess enthusiasts. Bud rose wood is an alluring wood and probably the most admired wood for luxury chess sets. 

The opposing pieces are made of boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. King, Queens, Bishops, and Pawns have unique rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelops the base of each chessmen for smooth movement on the chess board. The knights are well-crafted and represent the highest grade of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer.

Design Inspiration: The finial of the king is inspired by the dome of The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood which is located in Russia's rebel city St' Petersburg.

Craftsmanship: The carving and the design of the knight are quite spectacular, look closely at the curved neck, eyes, nostrils, teeth and, craftsmanship around the mane. The design of the other pieces is also highly outstanding that allows the set to truly stand out. Each chessmen is carefully handcrafted in India and takes some influences from the Arabian Knight Series. Superb size proportioning from king to the pawn exhibits true intricate craftsmanship in all the pieces. The design, quality, and craftsmanship of these chess pieces are comparable to the luxury chess sets that are sold for $1300+ by other retailers.

Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.

About Storage Box: This chess set comes with Leatherette storage box with double tray and fixed slots for putting each piece separately. It is exclusively designed for this chess set and is not available separately. It comes with the suitcase-style handle to carry and is also fitted with a lock for safe upkeep. The box has been lined with beige velvet to protect the pieces from scratching. There are two trays in the box to keep two sides of the set. The upper tray can be pulled out as it comes with little leatherette handles on either side. The lower tray is fixed inside the box.
