The King proudly stands at 3.75(Tournament Size) inches and its base is a robust 1.6 inches. Wider base and superb size proportioning from the king to the pawn exhibits true intricate craftsmanship in all the pieces. Dark chess pieces are exquisitely crafted in ebonized boxwood. All Chess pieces are expertly carved in India and weighted for prodigious hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board.

Weight: 1200 grams (42.32 oz). Please note that the weight in the set is added manually so the final weight of the set can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%.

The opposing pieces are made of Antique boxwood which is traditionally used for reproduced chess sets. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces have pristine cut green felt pads on their wide bases which give you the smooth movement on the chess board.

History: Challenger Robert James"Bobby" Fischer and Boris Spassky battled for the World Chess Championship in 1972. The match took place in 1972 at Reykjavik the capital city of Iceland and has been dubbed the Match of the Century. Fischer won the match by impressive 12½–8½, becoming the eleventh undisputed World Champion. However, Fischer lost the first game by a blunder in a clearly drawn endgame and the second game by forfeit because Fischer refused to play the game in a dispute over the playing conditions. Unfortunately, tournament organizers refused to give fulfill his demands and the match appeared destined for a forfeit victory for the reigning Champion, Spassky yielded since it would have been a hollow victory. Fischer was upset from the cameras in the first game so tournament organizers shifted the third game to a back room, away from the cameras where Fischer defeated the mighty Boris Spassky who ruled the chess yard for the past quarter-century.

This historic Fischer and Boris Spassky Chess set was produced by the legendary company Jaques of London, who also introduced the first Staunton chess set in the fall of 1849. We have reproduced the exact reproduction of the chess set used during the iconic 1972 World Chess Championship rivalry match between legendary Bobby Fischer and reigning Boris Spassky in Reykjavik, Iceland. The reproduction of Fischer and Boris Spassky Chess set(also known as Reykjavik chess set) has been attempted - but never before accurate like this. This reproduction exemplifies a perfect combination of class and history.

Perfect Fischer Spassky Set

I liked this set so much that I got a second set. This set was recently received and had perfect craftsmanship and was flawless. This is a very attractive and practical set.

Nice reproduction

I just received this set in under a week. Everything was perfect except for a couple small flaws. One of the boxwood knights had an errant cut on the face, but very small and towards the bottom, so not really noticeable during play - appears to have been an inadvertent bump by the cutting tool. The antiquing was generally good except for one boxwood rook which had a couple large, somewhat unsightly streaks down the side which didn't look like boxwood would normally age. So this set was not quite perfect, but worth the price paid since I got it on sale. More importantly, the set was well-balanced and had flat bottoms and is generally a quite attractive reproduction. The rooks are greatly improved in this version 2.

A piece of history executed well…

These chess pieces are a great reproduction of the Staunton/Jaques of London pattern as used by Fischer and Spassky in 1972. The Antiqued Boxwood finish option (which I purchased) is beautiful and further gives the pieces an aged finish one would expect with an older Lessing or Marshall set from the years gone by. The Knights in this set are simple, elegant and beautifully carved. The overall shape of the CB Knights nose/head here are a touch elongated compared to the original (lining up the nose of the CB Knights, they extend beyond the bust by up to 5mm in my case. The original Knights from the 72’ Fischer/Spassky set pretty much didn’t) but either way, one cannot question the quality of the carvings here for the price. They truly capture the essence of the Knights as used in this famous set. Highly recommended. Great quality and value for the price. This set goes nicely with a 2.165” (55 mm) or 2.25” (57.1 mm) playing square sized board

The chess pieces are truly beautiful and with a great sense of antiquity. Absolutely magnificent.

Disappointed

The white pieces are not ""Antiqued Boxwood"". I have been able to verify that they are exactly the same as the white pieces of SKU: R0302 (which I also have, and which are not, nor are they sold, as ""antiqued boxwood.) This makes me think that SKU: R0301 is exactly equal to R0301B, only that much more expensive.

Yo he podido comprobar que ellas son exactamente iguales a las piezas blancas de SKU: R0302 (que yo también tengo, y que no son, ni se venden, como ""antiqued boxwood). Ello me hace pensar que SKU: R0301 es exactamente igual a R0301B, solo que bastante mas caro.

Value for Money!

The version 2.0 Fisher Spassky is a beautiful repro from CB at a very good price. The antiquing and the polish on the pieces stand out making it a very good value for money set. The color of the white side matches perfectly and the ""knight"" truly is remarkable. Full marks to CB. A must for collectors or club players like me!

Knight too tall

Look at the feature table,Knight is much taller than bishop as shown in the picture.It isn’t even closer to the original fischer-spassky set

Is not equal to the photo

I received this item but the pieces is not equal to the image, my knights is more big than the bishops so this look not very good and one rock is broken when i received that .
