Fierce Knight Series in Staunton pattern is made up of rosewood and boxwood. The King proudly stands at 4.1 inches and its base is robust 1.7 inches. The dark chess pieces are made of rosewood and the opposing pieces are made up of boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. Chess pieces have thick green felt which precisely envelops the base of each chessmen for smooth movement on the chess board. Chess pieces are meticulously hand crafted from the finest grade wood and polished by hand to give it a rich and long lasting shine.

Fantastic set !

The customer service exceeded expectations as the order arrived two days earlier than promised. The packaging was done with care and precision as each piece was wrapped. As far as the product itself, I can tell the photos do not do justice for these pieces. As a previous reviewer stated there is negligible differences in color and tiny details (e.g. the knights' mouth). \nThat is all beauty of a handmade item, not defect or an issue. It reminds of the dedication put into the product from start to finish. \nThese pieces play very well with a 58mm board and with black/white or dark rosewood/white squares, but I preferred black personally because the dark pieces pop instead of blending into the dark squares. \nIn terms of pricing I was able to obtain the item through a decent discount and it was totally worth the price. So if you are on a tight budget I would wait for a special event or offers to get the best deal possible. \nCheers!

Nice set for the price

This is a great set for practical play and at a reasonable price. The rosewood seems to be an Indian Rosewood, not a completely solid color, but with some variation (some slightly lighter and darker streaking throughout some of the wood grains in some pieces, rather than a completely consistent shade). I have read that Indian Rosewood is the same as sheesham, but this set is much darker than typical sheesham. It is a very attractive set. There were a couple small flaws, but probably nothing that would be noticeable in play. For example, one rosewood knight was a little out of round at the bottom, due to being cut a little too deeply at one spot, causing a somewhat flattened edge at that spot. The same thing was noticed at the bottom of one of the boxwood queens, but very slight and only noticeable due to a dark mark at the spot. I was able to rub off the small dark streak apparently left by the tool rhat hit it there, so now it isn't noticeable. These small things would only be noticeable upon close examination and never during play, so I still gave quality a 5, as very slight variations in carving can occasionally be expected, particularly with knights. Highly recommended as a moderately priced standard Staunton set for tournament play or home study. The knights definitely look a bit ferocious, baring their teeth.

How are items packaged?

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.

Seller Error: If we made a mistake, such as sending the wrong or incomplete item, please let us know right away and we will gladly send the correct item in exchange whenever possible at no additional cost to you.(Wrong or incomplete items claim must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.)
