This large storage box is the best solution that I have found so far for large, fragile chess pieces. It is made out of fine quality materials. I use these boxes for all my larger-size pieces (many of the pieces are from Chess Bazaar also). Do not save money on the storage box; in the long run this really adds to the longevity of your precious pieces. This storage box was ordered with the Anderssen Drop Jaw chess set. The pieces fit perfectly into it and it provides the ultimate in protection.

I ordered the 4.2-4.8-inch coffer box as a companion to the Old Collector’s Club Staunton pieces, and the fit is close enough to appear bespoke. Before it arrived, I had some trouble visualizing just how large this box would be. When I unpacked it, I realized the location where I planned to place it in my chess room wasn’t nearly large enough. With the Old Collector’s Club pieces secured inside, it’s a heavy case (11.5 pounds). As some others have noted, these boxes are not meant to be carried upright (like a briefcase) without some additional padding, such as a towel, to keep the pieces from tumbling out of the coffers. However, I have no intention of carrying my prized Old Collector’s Club pieces any farther than from my storage closet to my chess room. It’s a visual delight to leave open while play is underway. The salmon-colored tapestry and stitched Chess Bazaar logo add luxurious touches. The small locking mechanism is effective. New owners may need a minute to master the latch, but it’s only because it is very secure. This is a well-made storage solution that’s well worth the money for any serious chess collector.

I bought this Storage box to house my new chess set as I didn’t want pieces damaged or squeezed into a simple cheaper box. I must say the storage box is superb, very well made and a great investment to keep pieces safe and in top condition.

I had previously bought a case in Brown to store the Red Bud Rose & Box Wood Chess pieces but chose to order the Black version to store my Crimson and White 1849 Staunton Set.\nIt arrived in perfect condition. Quality is excellent and every bit as good as described online. \nThe only minus point is that it is missing the ChessBazaar label that the Brown Box had inside. I have not mentioned this to ChessBazaar at the moment but I am hoping they will send me a label which I can affix myself.\n

Ordered a set of ""blackburne"" chesspieces in a storagebox. When delivered the pieces were very fine but the storagebox had an ugly chemical smell which sticks to it. I got this box along with the Ferocious Elite chess set with 4.3"" king and it fit like a glove. The velvet lining gently protects the pieces and the set was well fitted with styrofoam padding to prevent the pieces from moving around during shipping. The case is more convenient than a coffer for transporting, since it has a handle and is more easily carried around from place to place. Be sure to save any styrofoam packing material to fit over the pieces for transporting to prevent any loose rattling around or else pack a towel or something soft over them to ensure a snug fit while carrying.

I purchased this during the storage box blow out for 50% off. Well worth the money, nice leather, solid construction. The latch mechanism appears to be ""okay"" quality , the key looks like a tiny golf ball divot repair tool. It does what it supposed to do, keep the case closed. I own the The Ruffian American Series Staunton Chess Pieces and the King is a touch longer than the open slot, but with a little massaging you make it fit snugly. The Knights are also a touch larger than the slots so same applies. Overall well worth the money and I am happy with my purchase.

I purchased this case when I bought my luxury chess pieces from ChessBazaar. It's a true match made in heaven. The case is sturdy and the chess pieces have a cozy resting place when they're not in use. When you want to have a travel case for your luxury pieces you definitely don't want a wooden case where the pieces lay on top of each other and have a chance to get damaged, trust me. The case is a little pricey but well worth it if you want your prized chess investment to be protected. I got mine at a discount when I bought my pieces.

I have several of these cases to protect the chess sets purchased from Chessbazaar. The lining is attractive and all the pieces are cushioned extremely well. As others have noted, though, there is enough space between the trays so that some pieces become dislodged when traveling. To eliminate that issue I leave the Styrofoam packing material in place.

Great way to store/transport pieces. Was initially skeptical of price, but upon delivery thought price was fair. Would recommend.

I just received this storage box and I cannot open the latch! The button will not depress and the cheap little key just spins around to no effect! The box is expensive why is it equipped with a cheap dis functional latch! Can anyone advise me about opening the storage box without damage so that I can access my new chess pieces? As of now I’m frustrated and disappointed!

If you are ordering a classy chess set then you must buy a proper storage box, and I have no hesitation in recommending this box. It \nWill keep your treasured set in perfect condition. The quality is quite simply superb. Keep the foam packaging to prevent the pieces from moving about.

This case is amazing. I failed to buy that in my first 2 sets and I awfully regret. I bought the case with other 2 sets I bought from Chessbazaar and they are simply amazing. Don't do the same mistake I did and do buy this case when you buy your next chess set.

Pieces moves lose when carrying by the hanger, I solved by adding foam sheets between trays.

This is a high quality coffer, just as pictured. I assumed that both trays were removable, my mistake. Although it looks pretty when opened the pieces' bases should be at the bottom when being carried. I hope this won't break any of my pieces.

This product is really great, enabling safe secure storage and transportation of suitable chess set. It is sturdy and has a nice appearance. 5 stars all around.

If there is only one flaw with the case ... it would be that the pieces are able to move a little with in the slots cut out just a bit during transportation without some type of additional support. It would be perfect if there were two pillows made (from matching fabric) with polyester quilting filler in them to place on top of the pieces to (both top and bottom layer) to keep them from moving ... Now, there are absolutely no problems if you do not transport them, and only use this box for storage.

Exactly what I wanted for the chess set my Dad made by hand. I wanted something to protect it and also show off the beautiful workmanship he put into it. Use a piece of foam rubber over the top of the pieces to keep them from moving when you carry the case. The case came wrapped in form rubber and that is what I used after I cut it to size. Perfect. You won't be disappointed if you order.

The sturdy outside build and soft protective inner slots for the chess pieces makes this a great product to protect your important chess pieces. \nOne thing i found annoying however was the smell of the leatherette. It took a while for the smell to finally dissipate to a minimum. Overall, the product definitely compliments the more expensive chess pieces.

What can i say? I've had numerous quality issues with this company,which could have been so easy to fix,if they were truly a customer oriented outfit.....The case came in ""locked position"" and NO key was included.....Numerous message from me have gone unanswered.

This is an excellent box for the storage and transportation of the finer chess sets. Use a piece of Styrofoam or foam rubber to layover the chessmen to hold them in place during transportation. I would definitely recommend this box for the storage and protection of your chess set.

Had another chess set that needed a good box. So knowing how good the products are across the store here I just bought another one. Well worth the money try finding anything has good let alone the low cost in the UK forget it buy from here!
