Features: This tournament sized chess set " The 1950's Bohemia Staunton Series" in Staunton pattern has been specifically designed for tournament/serious players. The set features a 3.89" King with a base diameter of 1.45 inches. The Bohemia Staunton Series is expertly weighted from our master artisans and it's superb size proportioning from a king to pawn make this chess set an excellent choice for the blitz play in chess tournaments/clubs or regular home and school play. This is an impeccable reproduction featuring the magnificently robust and so-called "dragon" Knights.

Dark chess pieces are made up of sheesham( Golden Rosewood) wood and t he opposing pieces are made up of boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and appropriately weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. King, Queens, Bishops, and Pawns have unique collar rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelops the base for smooth contact and movement on the chess board. The knights are well-crafted and represent the highest grade of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer.

Craftsmanship: The lathe work on each chess piece is noteworthy, especially the unique collar rings and unique Dubrovnik Chess Set like bishops . All chess pieces have a wide base which adds another interesting dimension to the set. The carving and the craftsmanship around the mane of the knight are quite spectacular and design of the knight is somewhat similar to our Reproduced Romanian-Hungarian National Tournament Chess Set , The design of the other pieces is also highly outstanding that allows the set to truly stand out. Pieces are meticulously handcrafted from the finest grade Sheesham( Golden Rosewood) wood and polished by hand to give it a rich and long-lasting shine.

History: This chess set is also reproduced in collaboration with " Michael Ladzinski", one of the greatest chess collectors in the chess world. The 1950's vintage circa Bohemia German set was very popular in 1950's because of its fabulous design and its so-called "dragon" Knights. A later version of the 50's set was used at the 1970 Siegen Olympiad with less impressive "chicken head" Knights. Bobby Fischer played against Boris Spassky at the 1970 Siegen Olympiad with the later version Bohemia set. The original Chess Sets made by Bohemia are very rare and selling at thousands of dollars a set but that is not what every chess collector can spend on a hobby.

Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.

Beautiful and unique exotic set

This is an attractive set which I had liked so much in the ebonized version that I also added this sheesham set when it was at a price I couldn't resist. It was perfectly carved and flawless. One nice thing about the size is that it works perfectly on the 2.0"" squares (or 50mm) that are common on older chess tables, as well as on the standard-sized tournament boards with 55mm (or 2.2"" to 2.25"") squares.

Pure fun

This set is pure fun. It is sized well for 55 mm or 2.25 inch boards, feels good in the hand, and I expect it will see a lot of play in tournaments and in a blitz at the club. Brings a smile to my face every time I set it up.

My favourite set EVER!

I have had this set for little over a year and I can confidently state that this one is by far my ""all-time favorite"". The set is a near-perfect recreation of the original. All of its pieces are stunning. I like how tall the rooks are, how slim the bishops are with the little-colored dots that distinguish them from pawns when you look at them from above, and of course the ""Dragon Knights""! These knights do not have little round eyes like cartoon characters, and the impression of the eyes comes from the bumps and edges of the design, which in my opinion, make them look even more serious, dangerous and combat ready. I have purchased other sets from Chessbazaar (including one of their luxury series) but this one is the one I cherish and use the most.

Truly indeed an exact replica of a Bohemia Dragon Knight set Chess Bazaar has ever produced. A set not to be missed by all whom are serious into collection. I own a set too and I love them so much. A beautiful Reproduction

At first I wasn't interested in obtaining another set for I had a custom set already in queue. When I saw this new offering from Chessbazaar I liked all aspects of it and got a great deal from the financial teams and quickly made the purchase. It is a very nicely carved, smoothly turned almost identical reproduction to the original design. The Sheesham woodgrain looks fantastic on the dark army especially the way the knights give an ever commanding appearance on the board. It is also perfectly weighted for speed, blitz, lighting as well as standard chess matches. I try to say yes this will be my last purchase but sets of this quality and style always seem to call me back to the buying table. Outstanding reproduction, even better than the original vintage set

An amazing reproduction of the vintage 1950's Bohemia West German set. Many thanks to Vik and Gurpreet for making this reproduction at my request..This set has everything a collector and tournament player would want in a set. ChessBazaar's reproduction is even better than the original. For one its a larger set with 3.89"" Kings compared to the original's 3.75"" size. This makes for a much better playing set for tournament, speed or blitz play. .Secondly, like the originals, the pieces are gorgeous , but because of their larger size makes them an even more pleasing visual experience and board presence.
