Features: This tournament-sized chess set, "The 1950's Bohemia Staunton Series," is designed for serious players, featuring a 3.89" King with a 1.45" base. Expertly weighted, it is perfect for blitz tournaments, club, or home play, with robust "dragon" Knights.

Weight: 900g approx. (±10%).

Material: Dark pieces are ebonized boxwood, and the opposing pieces are boxwood (also in Sheesham). Includes extra queens, green felt bases, and finely carved knights.

Craftsmanship: Unique collar rings, wide bases, and exquisite knight carving. Inspired by the Dubrovnik Chess Set and Romanian-Hungarian National Tournament Chess Set. Handcrafted and polished for lasting shine.

History: Reproduced in collaboration with "Michael Ladzinski." The 1950s Bohemia German set was famous for its "dragon" Knights. A later version with "chicken head" Knights was used at the 1970 Siegen Olympiad, played by Bobby Fischer against Boris Spassky.

Uniformity: Turned pieces are identical, while knights may have slight variations due to hand-carving.

Bohemian Rhapsody

I own 10 chess sets from Chess Bazaar, plus other I have collected through the years. Chess Bazaar is definitely a value proposition when it comes to the quality for the price. It's really the best in that regard.\nWhen my chess playing adult son comes for a visit, this is the set he chooses every time. In fact, because of that, I bought the set in crimson also. Just a fun, cool set.

Unique ""Dragon"" Knights

One of my favorite sets and reasonably priced. You can't go wrong with the basic black (ebonized) version. The set I received was perfectly crafted and flawless. Well weighted for either blitz or serious play, not too light or too heavy. Highly recommended.

Awesome vintage set - looks even better in crimson

I have the crimson version of this set and the dragon knights are just wonderful. It is not a heavy set but still very nice to play with. I love the simple, but still elegant design of the bishops and rooks too. Very happy with this set. Please bring the red version back ;-)

Better in person for sure!

This reproduction of the Bohemia Staunton chess set is very good and is very likely better than the original. The finish of the pieces was very good, the wood is carved so well that its almost as if it was a fine casting. The 1950s style of this set is much better than I thought it would be as well. That knights are very unique and look even better in person. I think it is now my favorite of the modern chess set styles. The Chess pieces are of basic weighting making them easy to carry, but at the same time have enough weight to where they do not tip over, which I thought was impressive. It was an excellent Christmas present and I could not be more pleased with the look and feel of this chess set.

Absolutely Stunning Set , Magnificent ""Dragon Knights""

ChessBazaar first offered this amazing set in Sheesham which I absolutely love. So I decided to go""all in"" and purchase their Ebonized Lacquerd version along with their Crimson Lacquered version. The Ebonized lacquered pieces are so gorgeous and make a striking board presence. Its an amazing reproduction of the vintage 1950's Bohemia West German set. Many thanks to Vik and Gurpreet for making this reproduction at my request..This set has everything a collector and tournament player would want in a set. ChessBazaar's reproduction is even better than the original. For one its a larger set with 3.89"" Kings compared to the original's 3.75"" size. This makes for a much better playing set for tournament, speed or blitz play. .Secondly, like the originals, the pieces are gorgeous , but because of their larger size makes them an even more pleasing visual experience and board presence. And those ""Dragon "" Knights are so so beautiful! As a collector and player I couldn't be more happy with this Bohemia set reproduction. A collectible set made for tournament, blitz or home play. Its highly recommended.

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.

Seller Error: If we made a mistake, such as sending the wrong or incomplete item, please let us know right away and we will gladly send the correct item in exchange whenever possible at no additional cost to you.(Wrong or incomplete items claim must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.)
Defective items: If you receive an item with a manufacturer's defect, please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order to arrange for a replacement.
