The Imperial Collector Series weighted chess pieces with a 3.75" King and base diameter of 1.77". Dark chess pieces are exquisitely crafted in bud rosewood. Because of its rarity, bud rosewood chess pieces are the primary choice of many chess enthusiasts. Bud rosewood is an alluring wood and probably the most admired wood for most high-end chess sets.

Weight: 7200 grams (253.96 oz). Please note: The weight in the set is added manually so the final weight of the set can vary by ±10%.

The opposing pieces are made of boxwood which is traditionally used for the white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. King, Queens, Bishops, and Pawns have unique rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelop the base of each chessmen for smooth movement on the chess board. The lathe work on each chess piece is noteworthy, especially the unique collar rings and elegant curves.

About The Imperial Collector Series: Handcrafted in India, these chess pieces exude class and history. Appropriately weighted these pieces are very stable on board and a pleasure to touch and feel. Each piece is meticulously carved and buff polished by hand to give it a rich and long-lasting shine. The design, quality, and craftsmanship of these chess pieces are unmatched. To make Imperial Collector Series chess set what it is, our artisans take more than two days to carve a single chess set. The result of this hard work of these master craftsmen is a truly wonderful design and a masterpiece which any connoisseur will admire.

About: 2014 Sinquefield Cup
The 2014 Sinquefield Cup was the chess tournament honoring the founders of Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis, featuring six best players of the world including: GM Magnus Carlsen, GM Levon Aronian, GM Veselin Topolov, GM Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, GM Hikaru Nakamura and GM Fabiano Caruana. It was a double round-robin tournament. It was held from August 27 to September 7, 2014.

Last year's event was the strongest chess tournament ever held on U.S. soil. The grandmasters played the classic time control (40 moves in 90 minutes with a 30-second increment as of move one, followed by 30 minutes for the rest of the game) in a double round-robin tournament. The players included Magnus Carlsen, Levon Aronian, Hikaru Nakamura and Gata Kamsky. Sinquefield chess set was first seen in the 2014 Sinquefield Cup organized by the FIDE. It is the highest-rated tournament in the history of chess, bringing six of the world’s top-nine Grandmasters together at the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis. They competed in a 10-round, double round-robin for the $100,000 top prize and the right to hoist the coveted Sinquefield Cup.

Highlight: In round three, Carlsen chose the Bishop Opening 1 e4 e5 2 Bc4 for the first time, made a bishop sacrifice which Caruana defended accurately and Carlsen collapsed into defeat. The winner was Fabiano Caruana who got $100,000 and the honor to own the Sinquefield Cup.
