Special thanks to "Mike Ladzinski" for his exceptional efforts in making this dream chess set a reality.

chessbazaar proudly presents you the Reproduced Ferocious Knights 1890's Russian Tournament Set in an eye-catching ivory white & stunning painted crimson color. The King proudly stands at 4.3" tall with a base diameter of 1.7". Both sides are made of boxwood. Boxwood is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. Pieces have unique rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelops the base of each chessmen for smooth movement on the chess board. The Knights are well-reproduced and represent the highest grade of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer.

Craftsmanship: The lathe work on each chess piece is noteworthy, especially the unique collar rings and elegant curves on the knights. We then polished them in high gloss lacquer which gives the chess pieces a smooth shiny surface. The set is entirely handmade in India and weighted for prodigious hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. All chess pieces have a wide base which adds another interesting dimension to the set. This is an impeccable reproduction featuring the magnificently robust and so-called "Ferocious" Knights.

History: This spectacular chess set was used in premier Russian tournaments at that time. The original set is weighted with finely turned pieces and exquisite hand carved knights & we tried our best to replicate the same.

Chess and its Russian/Soviet connection: Chess is one of the most popular games in the Soviet Union and there is one interesting fact that most of the world chess champions were citizens of the Soviet Union. The period from 1993 to 2000 the world chess champions were almost Russians. From the early days, chess has been a central feature of Soviet history and culture from the middle ages onwards, resulting in a great range of chess sets from various times and zones. Click here to see our full range of Russian/Soviet chess sets. Chess is considered one of the most interesting, exciting and educational games in Soviet. Now a day's Russians also use chess as a training concentration.

Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.

New Ivory White(boxwood): Reproduced Ferocious Knights 1890's Russian Tournament set simply looks gorgeous and exquisitely striking in white color, therefore each piece is carved with meticulous care. Our most magnificent chess set yet takes nearly a week to create. It’s a chess set that is truly like no other.

Felts: Thick green felt precisely envelops the base of each chessmen.

Weights: The set is heavily weighted and so they are a pleasure to hold and will last for years if maintained properly in a dry and clean place.

Package Includes: 34 Chessmen(2 extra queens included), Chessboard NOT included in this sale.

Disclaimer: Product color may slightly vary due to photographic lighting sources or your monitor settings.
