Last month the spotlights were primarily on the Reproduced Drueke Vintage Edition chess pieces exquisitely made from ebony wood and natural boxwood. The King proudly stands at 4.05 inches and its base is robust 1.73 inches. This is a captivated design featuring the magnificently robust and remarkable knight. The carving and the design of the knight are quite spectacular, look closely at the eyes, nostrils, and details around the mane. The design of the other pieces is also highly outstanding. They are meticulously handcrafted from the finest grade ebony wood and polished by hand to give it a rich and long-lasting shine. Shop Now->

The Antique 19th Century Early Staunton Chess Set in Ebony & Antiqued Boxwood with King Side Stamping also made its debut and gathered a lot of fan attention. The king is 3.38 inches high and its base is a robust 1.6 inches. The chess set comes with 34 pieces including 2 extra queens. This antique chess set was produced in early 19th Century. The set was beautiful in its functionality yet easy to be produced in large scale. The pieces were rugged with heavy stable bases which did not tumble easily. The rooks were turned to look solid castles, the pawns were minimalist but refined, the bishops had simple miters. The design of the set was somewhat similar to 1849 chess set. There are many variations in the design available now but most of these have been derived from the original Staunton design. Shop Now->

This chess set is reproduced in collaboration with one of the greatest & oldest chess carvers in the chess world. The same carver who crafted the original imperial Chess Set back in 90s. The new version features a significantly improved knight, Rook & Queen. We’ve also increased the width of every chessmen. The Wider base gives the better stability while playing speed chess.

Reproduced Richard Whitty Antique chess set is the most beautiful chess set we have ever launched! Yes, you heard it right Richard Whitty set has been generating a lot of buzz & spreading it’s attention like wildfire in every chess enthusiast mind. Its new kind of king stamping is marvelous. Richard Whitty was one of the greatest chess carvers of all time. He worked in the John Jaques factory which was in London and carved some spectacular chess sets. From 2007 to till date, we have launched the different kind of chess sets ranging from magnetic series to giant series, but this chess set is specially designed for die-hard chess fans out there. Reproduced Vintage 1950’s Circa Bohemia Staunton Series German Chess Set. This chess set is also reproduced in collaboration with “Michael Ladzinski”, one of the greatest chess collectors in the chess world. The 1950’s vintage circa Bohemia German set was very popular in 1950’s because of its fabulous design and its so-called “dragon” Knights. A later version of the 50’s set was used at the 1970 Siegen Olympiad with less impressive “chicken head” Knights.

Moving on to the Candidates Series. The Candidates Series Staunton chess set is exquisitely made from bud rosewood or ebony wood and natural boxwood. This is a captivated design featuring the magnificently robust and remarkable knight. Reproduced 1880s-90s Circa Lasker Staunton Pattern Antique Chess Set is an arresting reproduction, mainly for its excellent value and exquisite design, featuring the finest aspects of Staunton pattern. This Lasker Staunton Pattern Chess set was produced by the legendary company Jaques of London in 1880. Jaques of London company was known for their well-finished quality chess pieces, they introduced their first chess set in the fall of 1849. 1849 Staunton chess set was beautiful in its functionality yet easy to be produced in large scale. Shortly after the 1849 chess set became popular Jaques of London launched a new chess set.

Things have really been getting heated during the last week when we launched Reproduced 1961 Soviet Championship Baku Chess Set. Reproduced 1961 Soviet Championship Baku Chess Set’s dark pieces are made of genuine Ebonized boxwood and the light pieces are made of Boxwood. The King proudly stands at 4″ tall with a base diameter of 1.57″. The carving and turning the quality of the knight is quite spectacular. Knights have a divergent style of carving on each side making even more captivating pieces from different angle views. Last but not the least is Reproduced 90s French Championship Tournament Chess Set. This peerless Reproduced Fide Approved 90s French Tournament Chess Set in Staunton style is made up of bud rosewood / ebonized and boxwood. This chess set has been specifically designed for the tournaments or serious chess players. The King proudly stands at 3.89 inches and its base is a robust 1.61 inches. This fascinating French chess set was designed by the famous French maker called Chavet in the early 90s. The set was used during the iconic World Chess Championship in 1990(Lyon). Since then, the design has gone through many iterations but this early 90s version is one of the best chess sets ever designed in the Staunton style.

10 Greatest Chess Masters of all Time!

Gary Kasparov – Gary started learning his training at the age of 10 at Mikhail Botvinnik’s chess school. In 1979, he accidentally entered into a professional tournament which he won. Started ruling the chess kingdom at the age of 22, youngest ever undisputed champion in 1985, he remained #1 until his retirement in 2005.

ANATOLY KARPOV – Youngest ever Soviet National Master (age 15), World junior chess champion in 1969, defeated Korchnoi and Spassky in 1974 and challenged Fischer for the World Title. He won the 1995 Linares tournament which is considered to be the strongest tournament in history.

EMANUEL LASKER – The longest ever(27 years) to dominate the chess world. Emanuel Lasker began his reign in 1894 by defeating Steinitz by 10 wins, 5 losses and 4 draws to win the World Title. Later in 1907 he defended his title against Marshall and won flawlessly.

Wilhelm Steinitz – He was branded as Austrian Morphy. In 1866 he defeated Adolf Andersson, then he became the strongest active player in the world. 1873-1882, the period when he only ended up playing one match, against Blackburne but won it flawless 7-0.

Jose Capablanca – Capablanca, the undisputed master of the Blitz chess, he began his chess at the age of 4. At 13 defeated the Cuban champion, at 18, defeated the US Champion Frank Marshall 15-8. Finally, in 1921, he won the World Championship and ended the Lasker reign and set up himself as the new World Champion which he successfully defended for next 6 years.

BOBBY FISCHER – Fischer, began his career at the age of 14, winning 8 US Championships, at 15, became the youngest Grandmaster and the youngest ever candidate for World Championship. In 1970 he on 20 consecutive matches in “1970 Interzonal”. By 1972, he defeated Boris Spassky to become the World Champion.

Alexander Alekhine – Alexander Alekhine, one of the strongest players of Russia by 16, and strongest player in the world by 22, as mentioned earlier, began his reign by defeating Capablanca in 1927.

Mikhail Botvinnik – He began his reign in 1948 which continued till 1963. He retired in 1970 and devoted himself to development of chess programs and training young Soviet Players.

Paul Morphy – He is considered to be the most gifted chess player. Morphy participated in the first American Chess Congress which he won to become the champion of United States.

Viswanathan Anand – The highest rated player in the world and World Chess Champion, he held the FIDE World Chess Championship from 2000-2002. Anand is one of the six players to cross the 2800 mark. He officially gained the #1 on November 1, 2010. Anand is the most versatile player as he is the only one to win the world championship in many formats including Knockout, Tournament, Match, Rapid, and Blitz.

15 Life Lessons we can Learn from the Game of Chess!

A chess player is always better prepared to deal with the world. From this game of chess, one learns some critical lessons that can be applied in life also and can lead to victories that are far sweeter than anything achieved on a practical chessboard.

Regular chess players are more intelligent and have more knowledge about everything in general. Playing chess is like playing the game of life. One’s decisions have consequences for the future. We know that each move we make, in life or in a game, determines a unique path for the future.

Both require a smart strategy and a confident sense of leadership to reach successful end goals. This strategy-based board game can teach you a lot about life:

1. How you start a game determines how you will finish it. Play wisely.

2. Learn to spot opportunities. There are often clearly defined lines of success that work well. Learn to see these when they repeat, and take advantage of them.

3. Try to simplify the things.

4. Sometimes you get stuck in a position known in chess as zugzwang: where whichever move you make is a bad one. This situation occurs sometimes in our life too.

5. When someone makes a move that you are not able to understand, don’t waste your time reading more into it than you need to. Sometimes people just make silly moves – they are not important.

6. Don’t get pinned down. Where something more cherished cannot be brought into play because it is stuck behind something trivial, make every effort to get it into the game – as soon as possible.

7. Be flexible. If the things do not go as you planned them – adjust and continue.

8. Never rest on your laurels or what you did last time for the problem. Keep thinking, looking for new opportunities and trying to generate new ideas.You cannot solve the same problem with old solutions.

9. Keep calm and move slowly.

10. Replace wishful thinking with action.

11. Don’t be overly impressed with lofty words or titles. Just focus on your goal and do everything possible to achieve it.

12. If you lose, do so graciously and try to learn at least one important lesson.

13. Appraise your position honestly. If it is bad, do something about it – if it is good, make it even better.

14. Don’t get swept up by distractions.

15. Keep your options open and always have an escape route.

“Chess as Art, Science, and Sport” Quote in Brief

We categories the activities into three categories — Painting as art, Physics as science, Football as sport— but if we talk about chess, then it can be plausibly be seen as all three, each with its own conventions. Chess action can be striking, systematic, or strategic. The former world champion Anatoly Karpov claimed in an oft-quoted remark that “chess is everything— art, science, and sport.”

Let’s see to what extent is this quote valid!

Chess as ART: Chess has got its own style, beautiful moves, and combinations. As the art of beautiful poetry creates magic all around, a Chessmaster also possesses the equal creativity. The way the chess masters moves his chess pieces and turns the game in his favor is absolutely artistic. Best chess games are not only limited to the stage, where it is performed but it is saved as lifetime memory in the minds of the player as well as the audience. Great chess games are breathtaking work of art and where much beauty is found in the elegance of a perfect and inescapable solution to a complex problem. Solving such problems making beautiful combinations is deeply gratifying and reveals aesthetic satisfaction. Combinations are the poetry of the game; they are to Chess what melody is to music. And these combinations can be purely regarded as art.

Chess as SCIENCE: About half of the greatest chess players in the world had mathematical or scientific backgrounds. Some people assert that there is always the best chess move in every position. Finding that perfect move involves a powerful logic behind it and that shows about its scientific approach. In the chess world, as in science, knowledge is acquired socially. As games are won and lost, newly “correct” and “objective” approaches to the game are discovered, and advice is reframed. This model suggests that chess theory is metaphorically likened to a science with experimental tests. Advancement depends on challenges over the board. Players participate in local and extended networks of knowledge but always based on the recognition of community. Innovation is necessary for grandmasters to dethrone their predecessors; the tactical and strategic approach considers chess as Science.

Chess as SPORTS: Anatoly Karpov remarked, “Chess is a cruel type of sport. In it, the weight of victory and defeat lies on the shoulders of one man. . . . When you play well and lose, it’s terrible.” Sports means competition. Like the world of Sports, chess games are also competitive. Why is chess so competitive? It is because of the various competitions organized by chess clubs and various chess tournaments held in different parts of the world. Players in tournaments can gain or lose rating points that measure their skill in comparison to other players. Ratings range from zero (novices start with an assumed rating of 600 but can lose rating points) to over 2800 for a top grandmaster. A rating locates one in a competitive hierarchy and determines in which tournaments one can participate and in which division one can play. Chess is famously an activity of the mind, with only the slightest movement of light wood pieces. But when we have lengthy games then bodily stress is also involved and the person needs to be physically sound as in other Sports activities.

With all these points mentioned above, we can say that the quote “chess is everything— art, science, and sport” by former world champion Anatoly Karpov proves to be valid.

Last month the spotlights were primarily on the Reproduced Romanian-Hungarian National Tournament Chess Set and it’s no surprise that our this reproduction is probably one of the best reproductions we’ve ever launched. This chess set is reproduced in collaboration with “Michael Ladzinski“, one of the greatest chess collectors in the chess world. This popular set is the rage of tournament players in Hungary and Romania. It’s refreshing to see these style pieces used in place of the mundane FIDE golden rosewood pieces in the Hungarian and Romanian tournaments.
